2023 Lent Materials – Pastor Pen 3-8-23

Family,

I pray you are well on this Wednesday morning. As promised, I am sharing with you some materials for this season of Lent. As a reminder, Lent is the 40 day season from Ash Wednesday leading up to Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. The 40 days mimic Jesus‘ 40 days of temptation in the wilderness after he was baptized. A traditionally Catholic expression, it is a time for personal reflection, sacrifice, and reflection, as we make our way towards the heaviness of Good Friday, and the rejoicing of Resurrection Sunday.

Attaching Two Readings Plus Calendar

I am attaching PDF copies of the two books we are using during this time. I am also attaching a calendar listing each day’s devotional, theme, scripture and prayer focus

Journey with Jesus through Lent Devotional. The first is the Journey with Jesus through Lent. It contains a daily devotional theme and scripture and a scripture for prayer. We are partway through this book. You should be using this one daily as a guide for our corporstedaily devotional, and reflection.

Plenty Good Room Wednesday Night Bible Study. The second book, Plenty Good Room, we are using for our Wednesday night Bible study from 530 until 630. We are in chapter 3. The Bible study will be available on zoom and live in the building.

Today Wednesday’s Calendar

In addition to today’s theme, scripture and prayer focus, we also have the following items on today’s calendar.

  • 12:00 Midweek Message
  • 5:30 – 6:30 Bible Study Zoom and in the Building)
  • 7:00 – 8:00 Lent Worship Service at Calvary Baptist Church. I will be preaching on the evening of the 15th.

Let us continue in prayerful support of one another in this season as we journey with Jesus on the lonely road to Calvary’s cross and to the celebration of Resurrection.

In love and service,

Pastor
