Prayers Watkins & Granberry

Family,

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of our own Deacon, Merrick Watkins. Deacon Watkins was diagnosed with ALS about a year ago and passed on Thursday morning. Deacon Watkin’s grace, mercy, encouragement, passion for service and love of the Lord were always present. The PBC community will miss him.

Funeral service is Wednesday, September 20 at Progressive Baptist ⛪. Viewing at 11:00 am. Funeral at 12 pm

We will keep Sis. Brenda, Brandon, and the entire Watkins and McSwain families in prayer.

Granberry & Hughes. We also keep the family of Delores Granberry in the passing of her sister, Jacquelyn (Jackie).  Her funeral was held on Friday morning.

Keep them and all of our PBC prayer and sick and shut-in list in prayer.

Transitions: Christian Education and Health and Wellness

During the entirety of my tenure as Pastor (over 12 years as of last week), Sis. Valecia Watson has consistently served as the lead of our Christian Education Ministry.  We appreciate her time and intentionality in serving in this critical ministry for many years. Recently, she shared with me and the teachers that now would be an excellent time to transition. Sis. Watson has similarly served over the Health and Wellness ministry during my tenure and has expressed it is time to transition from there as well.  I want to celebrate Sis. Watson for her many years of service in both roles.  Leading ministry is an honor and a challenge, and I want to thank her for staying on the wall.  Importantly, Sis. Watson is only shifting from leadership but will remain active in service as part of the Mission and Outreach Ministry!

I also want to thank Sis. Shirley Gladney and Sis. Donna Brown-Martin for stepping into those leadership roles. Going forward:

Adapting to Change & Ministry Interest

Thank you to all who were able to participate in the Adapting to Change process.  We had about 40 people participate in our Lunch and Launch on August 27 and 36 people filled out Ministry Interests forms.  In the coming weeks, we will begin to connect people with their areas of interest and their potential ministry leaders.  This is a reminder that we have three small group time slots for follow-up sessions.  Please sign up for one of the time slots below:

  • Saturday, September 16 10:45 – 12:45
  • Sunday, September 17, immediately after service
  • Thursday, September 28, 5:30 – 7:30

Contact Sis. Karen Robinson or Sharon Robinson to sign up or sign up after service tomorrow:
