Pastor’s Pen 2-21-23

Good evening PBC Family,

I pray you are well. I want to share a few brief updates with you.

Schedule Changes. With our nasty weather forecast tomorrow, we have two scheduled changes:

  • Lent Worship. 7:00 pm Wednesday evening Lent Service at Calvary Baptist Church is canceled.
  • Bible Study. Progressive Baptist Bible Study will be online from 6:00-7:00 pm. Online Only Tomorrow

Bible Study Tomorrow’s Bible Study is titled “Every Time I Feel the Spirit: A Mountaintop Experience”  from Matthew 17:1-9. For the lesson, listen to this video https://youtu.be/vbyoTU15wQc and reflect on the lyrics listed below. Bible study is taken from the book Plenty Good Room, by Thornton and Baldwin.

Also, look at this outline and questions:

  • Place and Time (Matthew 17:1). What is a theophany?
  • What Did They See? (Matthew 17:2-4). What is the importance of Moses and Elijah?
  • What Did They Hear? (Matthew 17:5). What are three points made by God in this encounter?
  • What Did They Do? (Matthew 17:6-8). What causes you fear?
  • Coming Down the Mountain (Matthew 17:9). After a mountaintop experience, what change or transformation have you experienced?

Song

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray.

Upon the mountain, my Lord spoke

Out of His mouth came fire and smoke

Looked all around me, it looked so fine

Till I asked my Lord if all was mine.

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray.

Jordan river, is chilly an’ cold

It chills the body but not the soul

There ain’t but one train, upon this track

It runs to heaven, an’ right back.

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray.

Down in the valley, when I feel weak

It’s when the devil, use’ly speaks

Because he’s crafty, and full of lies

I need the Spirit to keep me wise.

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray.

God bless you all!

Pastor
